A friend showed this to me the other day. Its old but I thought for those who haven’t seen it can still be amazed. These guys are crazy. They have gliding parachutes and go flying down the Eiger. With all the rocks its pretty amazing the control they have. It would scare the crap out of me to do something like that which makes it all the more impressive. Check it out and see if you’re impressed.
We are in the process of picking up products from Mountain Hardware, Big Agnes, and The North Face among others. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Outdoor Daily, it is the website where we feature one item a day for a special deal. It follows the daily deal model of selling one item at a time. Similar sites include Dailymemories.com, Steepandcheap.com, and Woot.com. It has been up and running for several months and gaining in popularity. So if you are not familiar with the daily deal format go check out the site. It only sells one item at a time and it changes every night at 11pm MST. Bargain hunters beware its an addictive way to shop. Once you start looking at daily deal websites you’ll start checking everyday.
For all of those who like to hear about whats going on in the crusade to save the earth Hugg.com should be in your bookmarks. This site is just like Digg but only deals with environmental news. Its a great place to find out whats happening. Looking on it today I found that there was a sighting of the thought to be extinct Baiji dolphin. I also found an article explaining why ethanol fuel contributes more to global warming than gasoline. Apparently more CO2 is produced when using ethanol in your car than when using gasoline.
Get informed with the latest green news because its as simple as checking out Hugg.com.
This site has zoomable high resolution pictures of several big walls. You can zoom it and out. Its kind of like Google earth for the faces of El Cap, Half Dome, Angel’s Landing and a few others. xRez is a cool project that is fun to play around with. I looked to see if I could find some climbers on one of the walls. I couldn’t but maybe you can. There are also pictures of cities as well. You can check out what that couple is doing in the secluded portion of the park.
Legislators are already regretting their bill that allows companies to trademark keywords. It is causing problems for some of the states bigger online retailers. Overstock, Ebay, as well as others are having problems listing their products since some of them conflict with protected keywords. The government is allowing the bill to go into effect however the database of trademarked keywords will not be activated until a better way of applying the trademark protect is determined.
Its funny how quickly this proved to be a bad idea. I mentioned in an earlier entry that this was not a good idea and hear we have it. It hasn’t even gone into effect yet and the problems are mounting up. Hopefully they will abandon the effort all together.
A friend sent me a link to this service. Green Dimes is a service that will contact junk mailers and get you off their list. This works for credit card companies and catalog mailers. The service is $36 dollars for the year and they plant a tree every month for you as well. You can also add another person of the same household for $3 more. Essentially the service costs a dime a day. While they are for profit, I like the idea and it is good for the environment.
Check out the site for more details and statistics on how many trees and water consumption you can conserve.
I found this site while using StumbleUpon. It utilizes Yahoo Maps. If your trying to set a route around town to run or ride this is a great service. No longer do you have to drive the route like I used to do or rely on a pedometer or odometer. With Running Map you can plot your route against Yahoo Maps and it will tell you how far you have gone. Its really easy to use and extremely helpful to figure out distances.
New slogan for the site as well. We had a T Shirt contest on Myspace and we had several good submissions by people. We did pick a winner but it inspired us to make a slogan for the company. “Live Beyond the Beaten Path” Hopefully soon we will have some T Shirts made up and available for purchase to anyone who might be interested.
A new Utah law has just been passed that will allow companies in essence to trademark keywords. Thus not allowing competitors to bid against the company in online advertising. The story is here.
The state of Utah has passed a bill that could impact the practice of buying competitive keywords, reports Search Engine Land.
Some search engine marketers buy up keywords associated with the copyrighted terms of their competitors. Utah’s Trademark Protection Act would make that practice illegal.
The bill creates an “electronic registration mark” as a new form of trademark. Registering that mark will cost $250 but once done a competitor may not use that term to trigger advertising.
The bill will almost certainly face legal challenges. Previous federal rulings have found that use of competitive keywords in search marketing is allowed under trademark law.
This allows companies to trademark phrases on the internet and not allow anyone else to bid on them for advertising. This law will most definitely run up against legal opposition. If allowed to stand people will probably run out to “trademark” all kinds of keywords in order to tie them up. I think just let competition take its coarse and let the best company’s advertising win. Allowing the law to stand will just hinder internet advertising and business on the net more than it will benefit those that the law protects. Only time will tell whether the law will stand, but I hope that it doesn’t.
